Carved by the sea. Written in stone.
Earth and ocean are at the heart of Tidal Opals. With Fossil Reef, I wanted to bring the look of an ancient reef into the frame and back plate of this Australian boulder opal pendant.
The opal holds flashes of green, blue and violet against reddish-brown ironstone. Around it, the silver has an old, weathered look, with ammonites and other fossil-inspired sea-life forms painstakingly carved and engraved into the frame and back plate.
The pendant began with grains of silver. The metal was forged and hand-milled, then the individual components were sawed, fitted, filed, and shaped by hand. The polished edges catch the light, bringing out the detail in the textured silver.
A one-of-a-kind statement piece with something to discover on both sides, made to be worn, admired up close, and passed down as an heirloom.
Slowly handcrafted in our Southern California coastal studio.
Measurements: 28 mm across the top and 29 mm along each sloping side.
